Eating Healthy During the Holidays

What is the time of the year that most people gain the most weight?  The holidays!  With cold weather taking over your local forecast and great food for the next month, people tend to be less active and over eat.  Here are some key tips to help keep the pounds off in the month of December.  And you never know, you may actually lose some weight!

1) Stay active:  It may be tough to get up early and head to the gym everyday, but you can dedicate yourself at least 3 times per week.  All it takes is 1 hour of training.  ‘ just 3 hours per week!  Not a morning person?  Training yourself after your work day will help relieve that built up frustration and stress.   What type of training should I do?  One half hour of resistance training followed by a half hour of cardio is just what you need to make improvements to your body.

2) Make healthy food Choices:  Turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, broccoli…ect. (you get the point).  All these great foods in one meal.  How do I prevent myself from over-eating?  Keep your plate loaded with veggies.  Hard to over consume and loaded with vitamins and minerals.  Turkey is a great source of protein, especially from the white meat.  Stuffing is most peoples favorite side during their thanksgiving feast.  Enjoy this tasty treat but minimize your portion of stuffing to eliminate the buttered down bread cubes and empty calories.

3) Spend time with family and friends:  That’s right, just hang out!  Relaxation time with the people you care about will help relieve stress.  Relieving stress will cease unconscious eating (eating because of boredom).

4) Get extra rest:  I know I told you to get up and be physically active, but you still need your beauty sleep.  Extra rest means extra recovery time from workouts and a larger improvement in body composition.

So… in summary

Training + Healthy Eating + Stress Relief + Rest = Fitness Success
